Hike and see

The Society for the Art of Engineering has compiled hiking routes across Switzerland that bring you close to spectacular masterpieces of engineering. This tour presents you with five trails that mainly focus on bridges. The Society for the Art of Engineering offers fact sheets with hiking maps and detailed background information for the individual routes (only available in French or German).

Hidden gems

On an international scale, the Swiss engineering scene is quite small, yet world famous. For more than a century, Swiss engineers have been driven by an innovative and pioneering spirit, which is reflected by the many impressive buildings sometimes deeply hidden in the countries many valleys, gorges and ravines. The hiking trails take you to these extraordinary yet often uknown treasures of architecture.

Individual stops on the tour

1. Stop: Swiss masterpieces of engineering

A hiking trail during summer and cross-country skiing track during winter – the odl railway track of the Rigi-Scheidegg Railway is well worth a visit, regardless of the season.

Bridges have given the name to the town of Brugg. Bridges from across the ages await your visit.

The breathtaking view of the three Lorzentobel bridges is unique. Each bridge marks a different architectural era.

Switzerland is our museum

The Society for the Art of Engineering has compiled various hiking routes. The maps as well as background information for each architectural structure are available online - completely free of charge (only in German and French). Each hiking trail offers a stand-alone experience and can thus be planned individually.

The Society

The Society for the Art of Engineering was formed in 1995 with the purpose of promoting the cultural heritage of engineering in Switzerland. Their activities include publications, exhibitions, excursions and thematic events.
